Ingredients

  1. 450g lean minced beef or lamb
  2. 1 onion, finely chopped
  3. 6 mushrooms, chopped
  4. 1 carrot, peeled and finely chopped
  5. 1 teaspoon plain flour
  6. 1 low-salt beef or vegetable stock cube, dissolved in 275ml boiling water  
  7. 420g tin of chopped tomatoes
  8. 1 teaspoon tomato sauce
  9. Salt
  10. Pepper
  11. 225g spaghetti

Method

  1. Brown the meat and vegetables: Cook the minced beef or lamb, onions, mushrooms, and carrots in a dry pan over low heat for 15 minutes. (The mince should release enough fat for frying.) Drain any excess fat.
  2. Thicken the sauce: Stir in the flour and cook for a few moments until it’s absorbed by the meat mixture.
  3. Simmer the sauce: Pour in the stock, chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce, a pinch of salt, and pepper. Let it simmer gently for 45 minutes, allowing the flavors to develop.
  4. Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.  
  5. Serve: Drain the pasta and top generously with the rich Bolognese sauce. Serve immediately with a tossed green salad or your favorite vegetables.
